Directed by Ridley Scott. Cinematography by
Dariusz Wolski.
Dariusz shot 'Dark City' so he is forever awesome. I don't know about you but I prefer the feel of the world of Aliens to the one of a world like Star Wars or Star Trek. It feels familiar, the kind of technology that's been compromised by corporate decisions.
Look at the hologram. I keep waiting for it to blank and say "buffering". You can create a whole atmosphere on a barren planet, but this is how your hologram tech works? And you get dressed up like 20,000 leagues under the see in the shot below. Love it.
Also our daily phallic photo. The ship design and the tech look as though there were assembled in some sweatshop with the cheapest available parts. You can tell companies have killed anything artistic about design and everything is created with utilitarian ends in mind.
The problem with 'Prometheus' is I never cared about the characters. Writing one character with at least a second dimension would have been an emotional boon. I guess there was supposed to be some intrigue if Theron's character was a Robot or not, but where are the stakes in either case? We did learn Elba can totally phone in a roll and still be charismatic on screen. So that's something. Take it or leave it.
