Deadpool - 2016

Directed by Tim Miller. Cinematography by Ken Seng.
I've just watched 'The Big Short' which makes plentiful use of breaking the fourth wall. I'm gonna do a comparison in the review between a serious drama and a comedy like 'Deadpool' using the same technique to different ends.
'Deadpool' operates with different rules, not just the character but the aesthetics of the film. Most comic book films are in an arms race to blow us all away with how evil the villains are and how the whole world is at risk.

For some reason the credit above made me laugh the loudest.

'Deadpool' goes in the opposite direction. There's no all-spark or power stones. Just kind of classic villainy and Faustian bargains. The motivation for the main villain is simple greed. The circumstance which sets everything in motion is cancer, so we can all relate to his fear and Wade wanting to spare his loved ones watching him deteriorate.
Even the scene below makes that old sockdolager,Colossus, a person instead of a mutant.

Check out the use of lighting below as Vanessa represents salvation for the bounty hunter.

I clipped the shot below as an example of something...I really can't remember what now though.

Highly recommended. Best superhero film I've seen since 'The Dark Knight'. And not just cause he swore. That's dumb and childish. It's cause there was a ton of violence.
